Today we are going to be talking about one of the most special ones: “La Canchánchara”.</p><h2>Origin.</h2><p>Canchanchara is a traditional Cuban cocktail that originated in the late 19th century. It was created at the central part of the island, specifically in Trinidad. At the end of this post, you will find the recipe but basically it is made with rum, honey, lime juice, and water. The drink is believed to have been created by Cuban revolutionaries (Mambises) during the Ten Years' War (1868-1878) against Spanish colonial rule. Due to the sensation of freshness that is felt when consuming it, this cocktail quickly spread to the entire island full of hot temperatures, becoming one of the most popular in the country.</p><h3>Its name.<br></h3><p>The name "canchánchara" is not clear for the researchers and scientists interested on this topic but it is thought to come from the Spanish word "chanchanarra," which refers to a type of roasted pig dish. Another suggestion is that some believe the name may also be derived from the Taíno indigenous language and refer to a type of fruit or plant.
