Location.

Varadero is located at the west of the Cuban island, specifically in Matanzas province. It is around one hour and a have driving distance from the capital city Havana. It has a population of over twenty-seven thousand locals but every year this area receives millions of visitors from both inside and outside the country. History.

The history of Varadero can be traced back to the indigenous Taíno people, who inhabited the area prior to the Spanish colonization of Cuba in the 15th century. The name "Varadero" originates from the Spanish term "varar", meaning to run a boat ashore. In the late 19th century, wealthy Cubans and Americans began constructing vacation homes and hotels in Varadero, taking advantage of the beautiful white sand beaches and tropical climate. By the early 20th century, it had become a playground for the Cuban and international elite. After the Cuban Revolution in 1959, Varadero was nationalized and developed further as a major tourist destination catering to international travelers. New hotels, resorts, and infrastructure were built to accommodate growing numbers of visitors from around the world. Today, Varadero is one of Cuba's top tourist destinations, known for its stunning beaches, all-inclusive resorts, and vibrant nightlife. It continues to be a popular vacation spot for Cubans as well as international tourists from North America, Europe, and beyond.
